Simon McKeon, well known philanthropist and businessman has been named Australian of The Year 2011.McKeon, who is actively involved with a range of charities, is asking all Australians to dig deep and get involved with a cause. Putting money where his mouth is, he now works part-time as Executive Chairman with the Macquarie Group in order to have more time for charitable work.McKeon is currently a director for the Global Poverty Project in Australia and Chairman of Business for Millennium Development, an organisation that encourages businesses to engage with the developing world. He is also a member of the Big Issue Advisory Board, involved with Red Dust role models; an organisation that seeks to improve the health and well being of disadvantaged youths in remote communities and was appointed Chairman of the CSIRO last year by the federal government. Opportunity International Australia congratulates Simon on this prestigious award, a well-deserved accomplishment for someone who has done so much for Australian and international charities.
